ENVIRONMENT ARABIA VISITS UNIVERSE ENVIRONMENT RECYCLING PLANT

Environment Arabia visited the recycling plant of Universe Environment Bahrain BSC on the 12th of January 2015 which is located in Sitra.

The company engages in the collection, processing and sale of recyclable wastes particularly various types of plastics, papers, and metals. They collect waste through bins distributed at various collection points around the Kingdom and pick up waste from commercial and industrial premises.

The daily average waste collection is between 3-5 tons of recyclables mostly coming from household sources.

The list of recyclables collected from sites include:

– Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) such as plastic film and carrier bags

– High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) such as milk bottles and plastic containers

– Paper which includes magazines, newspaper, cardboard, white paper

– Metal such as drink and food cans

The collected wastes are brought to the company’s plant in Sitra where it is manually sorted according to type before selling it to recycling plants within and outside the country. According to Mr. Vijay Kavil, plant manager, 100% of plastic and metal material is beneficially reused within the Kingdom of Bahrain but 90% of paper is sold to India or Saudi Arabia.
